Personal Message from June

"I have contributed to many different organizations through my years, and often wondered how much of my funds got to the intended place to actually do the work. I found that much of the money went to overhead costs, management, salaries, travel expenses, and other items deemed necessary to operate the organization. Very little ended up working for the poor.

I decided to do as much as necessary with my own funds and started with a $1,000.00 gift my daughter, Betty Anne gave me on my first trip to Guatemala.

With this money, I supplied books for 120 kids in two very poor schools which never even had a story book. I also bought paint, then scraped, sanded and painted 100 desks in an orphanage with help from the kids and other volunteers. I personally bought clothes, toys, and other items to brighten up the children's lives.

I then invested the remaining funds to help build my first school in Rio Dulce. I also bought fencing to enable a village start to raising chickens.
